This assignment was really neat. It opened my eyes and made me realize that everyone has a story. I also know now that I have a lot of things in common with my classmates. At first I didnt think it was going to work or I didnt think anyone would take it serious. In the end, it was really and I'm glad we had to write these papers. We can change the sterotypes by remembering that we all have a lot more in common then we thought. We have to remember the stories throughout the rest of the year. -Kelly Breen
Personally I didn't really like this assignment. I didn't know what to write about there's not that much that I don't tell people. I didn't feel like I only had problems on my life and those that I did aren't that big. Normal teenage life I guess, so I didn't feel the need to let anything out so I kept mine short and simple. I enjoyed listening to others because I like listening to people's life stories. If we did some other writing assignment I think I might write more. -Joaquin Zuniga
I really enjoyed this assignment. Like Kelly, I was pretty skeptical at first and I didn't think many people would take it very seriously. In the end, though, it helped me to understand and get to know everyone in our class a lot better. I also helps tear down stereotypes because you realize that as different as many of us seem from one another, we all have expirienced the same emotions.
I liked this assignment because I think it showed all of us that we have a lot more in common with each other then we thought. It was also cool to see that people were able to open up to the class. We can help change the sterotypes by remembering that we have things in common and respecting the fact that people opened up which would lead to us just respecting each other.
I liked this assignment alot and it made me open my eyes up to what other people were going through. It surprised me that there were so many people feeling the same way as I did. I learned that we can never judge someone just by their outward appearance and that there's much more to them deep down. I agree with Kelly that we should try to remember these stories for the rest of the year.
I thought this assignment was really eye opening. What I liked was how I could just write it all down and let it all out. I didn't think people were going to write as much as I did and I felt like I was going to be the only one sharing something I don't normally tell everyone. I was surprised to find that I had a lot in common with everyone in the class. If I were to go back and redo the assignment, I would definitely write more. This assignment helped break stereotypes because we got a chance to see what was inside. Now we can no longer judge each other on our appearances.
I really liked this assignment. At first I really did not know what to write about, but once I started writing I could not stop. Like Sarah, I learned that you can not judge people by what they appear to be. Also, I realized how many stories related to mine. Like Kelly said, we should remember these stories for the rest of the year. Jake Klein
This was really interesting. I didn't know that I could relate to so many people. I'm really happy that most of the stories have happy endings. I know for me, I've never been so happy and cheerful and optomistic in my life before, and hearing some of the stories made me realize that I should never really judge anyone at first glance, because they have a story that's made them the person they are today.
This assignment was really interesting in how it got us to relate to the people in our class on a more personal level. It showed us that their are many similarities between what has happened in our lives and in the lives of our classmates. These papers have also helped us to understand and get to know more of the people in our class. Because of this, and the similarities seen with the assignment, the views we have of others are likely to change since many people in class have had the same experiences and can relate to others feelings or what they are going through.
I very much loved this assignment. Personally, opening up is easy for me, and it makes it one step closer for me to forget all the bad things that happen. Positive things always outweigh the negative after all. Letting out all the things hidden inside make things easier, I believe.
I wasn't disappointed or saddened when no one had anything in common with my story, but I was glad that I, along with others, was able to connect to different stories. It was interesting for me to learn about other people. They kind of know why I act the way I do, and I know a bit of who they are.
I found this assingment an eye-opener and very intriguing. I honestly think we should do more writing assignments like this becuase maybe the more we do, the more others will open up more and be more comfortable with everyone else in class.
This assignment was interesting in the sense that i'm not used to writing anything for a PE class. But i guess it was fun. I dont exactly like writing about myself. And thats all i have to say about that.
I thought the assignment was interesting. Hearing everyone's story made people realize that life isn't always sweet. As far as changing sterotypes, maybe some people will respect what they heard about people's lives. Hopefully, people will take into consideration that everyone has a story when the want to laugh at someone or gossip. But to be honest some people will continue to not care. One of the biggest things that i learned from this assignment is that reality is not always sweet. So some people will continue on like nothing happened. Me personally, I do care. Before this assignment I always respected everyone and now I respect them a lot more.
This assignment meant a lot to me because, like many others, it made me realize that I have a story. And, hearing everyone elses story really opened my eyes; I always new that bad things happened to good people, but I never knew the extent of it. It really made me rethink how I interact with people I don't know a lot about. To help change stereotypes, I think there's not a whole lot we can do about what other people think, but we should all be careful about what we think and how we judge people because our own thoughts are the only thing we really have control over.
After reading all the comments, I'd have to say that I agree with a lot of them. Going into this assignment, I didn't think people were going to open up as much as they did. I helped you learn a lot of new things about the people you thought you knew so well. I kind regret not adding more. I shared a lot of stuff but I thought maybe I didn't originally add as much because I was scared that other people wouldn't open up as much as I did. I agree with what Kelly said about changing steriotypes. You're not alone in most situations you're dealing with. -Amy Bidstrup
Going into class, I may have had assumptions about some people. Having finished reading all the papers and learning about other people, I feel like I have more trust in them because they were so open with the class. I also feel that I don't really have any assumptions anymore. Overall, I think this was a good assignment to do.
I feel like this was a very unusual assignment for an outdoor adventure class, but, judging by everyone else's comments, it really has helped us understand more about each other. For me especially, I love hearing other people's stories so this was a great opportunity for me to get to know everyone better. We can change the stereotypes by going out of our way to acknowledge others - their skills, struggles, joys, and personalities. Just by letting people know you care can change a lot of the negative attitudes in our class and in the world.
